Electrotherapy

What is electrotherapy?

Electrotherapy is the treatment process by using the electrical current. It is an integral part of the physiotherapy treatment process.

Electrotherapeutic devices use different therapeutic waveforms. A standard electrical stimulation device includes electrodes /pads that are attached to the treatment area. When activated, the electrical energy of the device causes the muscles to contract to give a feeling of relaxation and pain-free.

However, Electrotherapy not only includes electrical stimulations but it also includes heating devices that use electrical current to generate temperature.

I have a YouTube channel where I have made an Electrotherapy Playlist of all the videos related to electrotherapy, you can watch this visiting this link.

The most common waveforms found in electrical stimulation are:

  1. Interferential therapy/ IFT
  2. TENS
  3. Electrical stimulation that includes faradic and galvanic stimulations.
  4. Ultrasonic therapy
  5. Shortwave Diathermy /SWD
  6. Traction
  7. CPM
  8. Infrared lamp
