Posture Score Calculator (Forward Head Posture / CVA)

Enter your current age in years.

Sex
Used to adjust your expected craniovertebral angle — normative values differ slightly by sex.
This field is required.
How to measure: have someone photograph you sitting or standing naturally from the side, with your ear and the base of your neck visible. Using a free protractor/angle app on the photo, draw a horizontal line through the bony bump at the base of your neck (C7 vertebra) and a second line from that same point to your tragus (the small flap of cartilage just in front of your ear canal). Enter the angle between the two lines below.

Your CVA Compared to Expected

°

A positive number means your posture is better than typical for your age and sex. A negative number means more forward head posture than typical.

How to interpret your raw CVA (entered above):
• 53° or higher — Normal head posture
• 44– 53° — Mild forward head posture
• Below 44° — More pronounced forward head posture

Scored in the mild or more pronounced range? These forward head posture correction exercises target exactly this pattern.

Expected CVA values are based on age- and sex-adjusted reference data from Zárate-Tejero et al. (2024), Applied Sciences, 14(19), 8639 (DOI: 10.3390/app14198639), a study of 122 healthy adults. Severity classification cutoffs (Normal ≥ 53°, Mild FHP 44–53°, Severe FHP below 44°) reflect thresholds widely used in the forward head posture literature, including Yip et al. (2008), Manual Therapy, 13(2), 148–154. Results are indicative only and do not replace a professional physiotherapy assessment.
