Make Career in Physiotherapy?
Which course do we need to do to become a physiotherapist?
To become a physiotherapist we need to do a BPT (Bachelors in Physiotherapy). It is a 4 years graduation course and there is a six month of compulsory internship so in total it takes 4 & half years to complete a BPT.
What are the eligibility and admission criteria?
To get into the BPT course you need to appear for the combined entrance examination. For which the minimum qualification is +2 science with Biology, Physics and Chemistry.
We have numerous good private colleges and few Government colleges and every institution have their own combined entrance test to get admission. Visit the website of the concerned institution and look for the admission notification.
In this article, I will discuss the admission criteria of National Institutes. There are three National Institutes in our country they are all under the Ministry Of Social justice and Empowerment Government of India.

- Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay National Institute of physically handicapped, New Delhi.
- National Institute of Orthopedically Handicap (NIOH), Kolkata.
- Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (SVNIRTAR), Cuttack, Odisha.
The first one the IPH Delhi, they have their own combined entrance test (CET) and usually the notification for admission is published during the month of April /March and by June they conduct the examination.
NIOH and SVNIRTAR they together conduct combined entrance examination. visit this website to know more about it and they also publish the admission notification during the month of March and April and by June July the conduct the examination. And by the month of September. the new session starts.
Colleges for physiotherapy
Our country has several private and Government colleges for Physiotherapy education. whatever colleges you choose but make sure that it is IAP approved.
IAP stands for Indian Association of Physiotherapists and it is a private governing body that governs the Physiotherapy professions. So when choosing the college make sure that the college is IAP approved.
If you visit IAP website you will get list of IAP approved colleges all over India Look for your city (state).
As I have already mentioned the three top national government institutes there are also several other good private Institutions like:
- Manipal University
- Christian Medical College, Vellore
- Saint John’s Hospital
- Amity University
- Lovely Professional University

Physiotherapy career further studies, Jobs
After completion of BPT, you can get Jobs in hospitals and clinics but if you want to do further studies you can pursue MPT (Masters in Physiotherapy). In MPT you can choose various specialisations like paediatrics, Orthopaedic, Neurology.
