Turmeric can help you ease your knee osteoarthritis pain, finds a small recent study. Knee pain due to osteoarthritis is very common after the age of 40 years and current pharmacological treatment is sub-optimal for it. The effectiveness of turmeric in OA knee has never been studied earlier.
This new Australian research was conducted by University of Tasmania in Australia and was published online on “Annals of Internal Medicine” in which researchers found that turmeric supplement in the for of capsule was effective in reducing the osteoarthritis pain1.

Participants were given turmeric capsule
Researchers at University of Tasmania, Australia were curious whether it can help OA knee sufferer as well. So, they recruited 70 participants with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis with joint effusion–synovitis. They were all age 40 or above.
They were randomly assigned one of the two group, one group received 2 capsule of turmeric each day for 12 weeks and the others group received placebo treatment.
Result
Result of the research was satisfactory, as the patient group who took turmeric reported significant improvement in knee pain as compared to the placebo treatment. Participants also reported improvement in knee function during daily activities.
However, turmeric use was ineffective in physical and anatomical changes in knee osteoarthritis, like cartilage health.
