which leaf is good for diabetes

Do you know drinking water boiled with drumstick leaves can treat diabetes naturally?

These leaves are readily available, but you need to know the step-by-step method to use them. The tips I will share have already worked for my mother, who has been a diabetic for the last eight years.

Using this simple home remedy, she has controlled her sugar level to a safe level. Before reading further, I would also like to mention that by following a simple but different cooking method, you can also eat foods generally restricted to diabetics.

Boil these leaves and say goodbye to diabetes.

Since childhood, I have heard that eating drumstick leaves keeps your blood clean. That was when I was a kid. Now that I have become a well-qualified health practitioner (physio), I repeat those words in a little scientific way: “Drumstick leaves help maintain blood sugar levels.”

Drumstick leaves are also scientifically known as Moringa oleifera. They are native to the western sub-Himalayan regions of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

Its leaves, seed pods, and even flowers are used to make various dishes, and the people of India relish this food. As a native of Jharkhand, India, I would say we love the “saag” made of its leaves and flowers. There is also a dish made of dried drumstick leaves.

Other popular dishes are made of drumstick seed pods; in Odisha, it is the main ingredient of a curry known as dalma. In southern India, sambar is incomplete without a moringa seed pod.

The leaves are rich in protein, essential amino acids, iron, copper, calcium, Vitamin C and carotenoids. Research has found that this leaf is rich in Isothiocyanate, which helps reduce blood sugar levels1.

Drumstick leaves have many other health benefits, but I’ll restrict this article to diabetes only. Consuming drumstick leaves helps control blood sugar levels.

In an exciting moringa diabetes research study, scientists recruited 70 participants, 35 of whom had diet-controlled type 2 diabetes and 35 of whom were non-diabetic.

They were all administered moringa in powder form. The result was surprising: administering moringa oleifera leaf powder 30 minutes after a food bolus reduced blood glucose in diabetic patients only but not in non-diabetic volunteers.

How to effectively use drumstick leaves?

Many people enjoy consuming this nutritious plant as a green leafy vegetable, and it can be used to create a variety of delicious dishes. To benefit from its health properties, a popular method involves boiling the leaves with clean water and drinking a glassful every morning on an empty stomach.

Here’s a step-by-step process:

  1. First, take the leaves and place them in a bowl with two glasses of water.
  2. Boil the leaves for at least 30 minutes, allowing the hot water to cool down afterwards.
  3. As the leaves boil, the water’s colour will change.
  4. Once cooled, filter the water into a glass and drink.

P.S. Please do not reuse the leaves. Take fresh leaves every day

What are the other health benefits of drumstick leaves?

Drumstick leaves have various other health benefits. They are a rich source of protein, essential amino acids, iron, copper, calcium, Vitamin C, and carotenoids.

They also have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties. They help improve digestion, strengthen bones, and enhance immunity. Additionally, they are effective in treating asthma and other respiratory disorders.

How to get it for yourself

If you live in the Indian subcontinent, it is readily available everywhere. The plant is now grown for medicinal purposes in tropical countries like Africa. If you don’t have local availability, you can use it in powder form.
