PPE stands for personal protective equipment, it is a garment that protects the healthcare worker or any other person from exposure to infection. In the current COVID-19 pandemic we all might have heard of the shortage of PPE for our doctors, nurses, public health workers which is very important for them.

They being the frontline warrior of the pandemic, acts like protective gear protecting an armed force personal during a war.

But, what actually does a PPE kit include and how does it help our COVID-19 frontline warrior to fight against pandemic?

What is PPE?

Personal Protective Equipment or PPE kit is a set of garment that covers a person from head to toe in order to protect from exposure to infection.

In the current coronavirus pandemic, WHO has recommended a minimum of 6 meters of social distancing between tow persons in order to prevent the spread of the virus. But our doctors, nurses, and all other public health workers has to come closer to the infected person to treat them.

They have a very high risk of getting exposed to this deadly virus. This is why the this kit is very important to protect them so that they can carry on with coronavirus fight.

But, what actually does this PPE kit consists of and how a kit can protect oneself from head to toe from being exposed to infection?

What actually does PPE kit consist of?

A PPE kit should consist of garments that are capable of covering oneself from head to toe. So, these are the following thing a standard kit consists of.

  • Eye protection, it could google or head & face mask made of a transparent sheet,
  • N95 respirators mask,
  • Medical gloves,
  • Gowns,
  • Boots or closed-toe work shoes.
