8th September is celebrated as world Physiotherapy day all over the globe. We at Rourkela, Odisha, India also celebrated 8th September 2018 as a World Physiotherapy Day with all the enthusiasm.
The event was organised by RRRC (Regional Rehabilitation Research Centre, Rourkela) and Marwari Mahila Manch, Rourkela. A Physiotherapy awareness camp was also conducted by them.

After the Lightning of diya our chief guest and other dignitaries addressed the gathering and gave their message for World Physiotherapy Day 2018. There message included the benefits and need physiotherapy in today’s medical scenario.

There was almost all kind of patients. People of all age group took benefit of the camp. Some of them were old,
Not only the pain cases, there was several disabled children who attended the camp and were assessed by physiotherapist. The disabled children like autistic, cerebral palsy and various kind of physically challenged children attended the camp.
There was also a separate counter of Health and nutrition. The purpose of this counter was to create awareness about the good nutrition and its benefits on our health. The attendee of the function also gathered around this counter to take the benefit of the nutritionist who was serving them.
The whole day was filled with activity and a sense of creating a healthy environment engulfed the area to create a world where there would be no pain and disability.
But before I finish this article let me take the opportunity of the occasion to explain a few important aspects of Physiotherapy profession.
What is physiotherapy
In a simple word Physiotherapy is the term which is made by the combination of two words physical and therapy.
It means giving therapy by using physical modalities. Physical modalities could be anything. It can be exercise, external force (weight, gravity, tensile force, elastic force) heat, cold, electromagnetic radiation and electric current.
What are the jobs of a physiotherapist
Usually, people associate Physiotherapy profession with the musculoskeletal pain cases like joint pains, arthritis, muscular pain. The physiotherapist has an active role in treating Orthopaedic musculoskeletal pain cases.
But contrary to this, their job is not only concentrated to Orthopaedic cases, they actually handle a vast group of patients including neurological cases like sciatica, prolapsed disc, paralysis cases like hemiplegia, quadriplegia etc.
They also have a role in paediatric cases like cerebral palsy, Autism, polio and many other physical disability cases of children. Physiotherapy in co-ordination with occupational therapy can bring

In modern-day Medical Science, physiotherapist
As the Physiotherapy is evolving, slowly the people are recognising the profession and they are accepting it to consult for their pain and their physical ailment. And this is why you can see physiotherapy clinics mushrooming around your city.
